Overview

What is a Mutual Fund?

A mutual fund pools money from many investors and invests it in shares, bonds or money-market instruments according to a stated objective. You own units of the scheme, and their value (the NAV) moves with the underlying portfolio. Every scheme is regulated by SEBI and managed by an Asset Management Company (AMC).

FAQs

Questions, answered

What is the minimum amount to start a SIP?
It depends on the scheme. Many schemes accept SIPs from ₹100–₹500 a month; your RM will confirm the current minimum before you register.
Are mutual fund returns guaranteed?
No. Mutual funds are market-linked, so the value of your investment can go up or down. Choose schemes that match your goal, time horizon and comfort with risk.
Can I pause or stop my SIP?
Yes. Most AMCs let you pause or cancel a SIP. Cancelling stops future instalments but does not redeem the units you already hold, so please inform us before the next debit date.
How long does redemption take?
Proceeds are usually credited within a few working days, depending on the scheme type and the regulatory timeline; liquid funds are typically fastest.
How are mutual funds taxed?
Tax depends on the fund type and how long you hold it, and rules can change with each Budget. Our Tax Guide has the current summary.
What is NAV?
Net Asset Value is the per-unit value of a scheme, calculated every business day from the market value of its holdings minus expenses.
